Private events and classes are one of the unique features of fibre space. Our rocket themed classroom or entire retro shop are available for rent for private knit and crochet events or parties. fibre space staff will also come to a venue of your choice in the DC metro area. Sunday, September 5th, 1-4 pm
Join us on this day to either learn how to knit a scarf or to create and contribute a scarf project to Volunteer Alexandria’s collection drive for Operation Gratitude. Operation Gratitude is an organization that sends care packages to soldiers overseas. To read more about why our troops need scarves, check out the Operation Gratitude site on hats and scarves. Yarn for this project will be discounted for this event. It is recommended that you use blues, browns, olives, grays, maroon, and black. Feel free to bring from your own stash or to bring yarn to donate to other students.

If you already know how to knit and would like to donate some time on this day to teach youth and adults to knit a garter stitch scarf, please contact the shop.

If you have finished a scarf and wish to donate it to Operation Gratitude, please bring it to the shop on September 5th or drop it off at Volunteer Alexandria: 123 N. Alfred St, 3rd Floor, Alexandria, Va 22314. Scarves should be: 5-7″ wide and 45-50″ long
Please note: Acrylic yarn does not meet military burn test requirements. Please bring or purchase wool or alpaca yarn for this project.

Come out and meet the author of this brand new and amazing book – Julie Turjoman. Brave New Knits is the first book to celebrate the relationship between the traditional hand craft of knitting and the online knitters’ community. The book features some of the blog world’s most amazing designers: Jared Flood, Stefanie Japel, Ysolda Teague, Melissa Wehrle, Norah Gaughan, Chrissy Gardiner and Shannon Okey….to name a few.

The Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef Project is a collaborative fiber art exhibition that seeks to raise awareness of the condition of our ocean’s coral reefs through handicraft. As part of the exhibition, we have the opportunity to build a “satellite reef” that will be exhibited with the Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef at the Sant Ocean Hall in the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History.
